O'Neill Police Department
The City of O'Neill Police Department, located at 317 South 4th Street, is staffed by 7 sworn police officers, 4 reserve officers and 1 executive secretary. The Police Department provides a variety of programs in the areas of uniform patrol, criminal investigation and crime prevention. The Department is also a member of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Intelligence Network. The Police Department's vehicle fleet consists of four marked patrol units utilizing in car cameras to document patrol and vehicle stops.
The crime rate per 1,000 population in the City of O'Neill in 1999 was 18.9 compared to the state crime rate (including Omaha) of 41.3.
The O'Neill Police Department crime index clearance rate was 38.5 percent for 1999 compared to the state average of 25.2 percent and the national average of 21.0 percent.

The City Police Chief shall direct the police work of the City and shall be responsible for the maintenance of law and order. He/she shall act as Health Inspector and Building Inspector, except in the event the City appoints another person. He/she shall file the necessary complaints in cases arising out of violations of city ordinances and shall make all necessary reports required by the city ordinances or the laws of the State of Nebraska.
